Statement Issued By “Nuff” Respect on Behalf of David Davies

David Davies wins Commonwealth Gold for Wales 21st March 2006
David Davies won Gold by a huge margin in the 1500m freestyle Swimming event at the Melbourne Commonwealth Games today. It was a hard race for David as he was along way ahead of the field for the entire race and therefore had to pace himself to maintain a good time. He managed this clocking a world class time of 14.57.63. David had already won a Bronze in the 400m earlier in the games and with a lot of pressure on his shoulders did incredibly well to swim such a fantastic race.

David really enjoys training in Australia and this is first time he has competed there. It’s the only Championship where he competes for Wales instead of Great Britain and he was extremely proud to watch the Welsh flag rise and listen to the Welsh anthem whilst on the podium. His Commonwealth victory is Wales’s first Gold medal in the pool since 1974. David heads home to Wales after the Commonwealth Games to begin preparations for the European Championships in Budapest in the summer.
