Athletics fans were treated to a spectacular event at Gateshead yesterday.

From Team GB European indoor 400m silver medallist Nigel Levine was the first to get the crowd going, sprinting out of the blocks like a man possessed.

There was a huge roar as he came around the final bend in front, but not quite enough to see him across the line first. Vladimir Krasnov caught Levine in the final 30 metres, however Levine managed to hold off David Gollonov in a performance that showed plenty of potential and positives for the future.

Gateshead Harrier, Stockton sprinter Richard Kilty is well used to the Gateshead track and he claimed seven valuable points when he ran 10.51 in the 100m. In the drenched and windy conditions this a time that earned a lot of praise from fellow competitors as well as in the team camp.

This left the much anticipated return to GB action for Nathan Douglas, who put in a very strong performance to come third in the triple jump. After previous injury worries, Nathan showed confidence and charisma in the way he attacked his run up, leaving fans eagerly anticipating his next outing.
