Olympic Bronze medallists Katherine Merry (Sydney 2000) and Steve Parry (Athens 2004) were special guests at the store opening and were on hand to play games with the kids and sign autographs. One of the main aims of the stores is to reach out into the local sporting community and encourage and develop sport.

Decathlon store were set up in 1976 in France and first came to the UK in 1999 with the sport superstore concept. Having reworked their business plan in the UK they are now going through a serious expansion plan and having spoken with the Managing Director there is much more to come (including a new distribution centre and a strong focus on the online market). Not many stores can claim to be the world’s largest sports retailer but Decathlon can.
