Iwan, the Current 400m Commonwealth Games record holder and former Olympic athlete, was greeted by cheering crowds as he carried the Queen’s baton at a youth festival during its third day in Wales.

The relay is part of tradition which started before the 1958 Cardiff Games and takes place before every Games. This year’s relay is part of the build-up to the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow which start on 23rd July.

Thomas, who has an array of Olympic, Commonwealth Games and European championship medals, said he was proud and honoured to be a part of the relay.

“I was part of the Olympic Torch Relay and I think the Commonwealth Games this summer is going to be fantastic, and hopefully me being here today can help add a bit of excitement.”
