Following a career spanning of over 15 years culmintaing in two Olympic 200m finals, Christian Malcolm is right up there with the Great British athletics immortals. However, it is ITV that will now provide Christian with his latest challenge. Although Christian will not have to compete against Usain Bolt again this autumn, he is teaming up with some of the nations finest sporting talents, including double Olympic rowing champion James Cracknell and former IRB world player of the year Shane Williams. All 8 of the athletes will be pushed to their physical and mental to capacity to find out who really is top of the charts. As Porfessor Greg Whyte, former Olympian and world-renowned sports scientist states ”It’s one of those age old pub debates – who is the best athlete? This show can prove scientifically, with evidence, who is the best all rounder of them all.”

Set in the Croatian Adriatic coast, the 8 sporting icons will be tested over 10 fitness components ranging from Christian’s more favourable assets of reaction speed and strength to his least favourable stamina and hand-eye coordination. Airing in early October, the other athletes joing Christian will include rower James Cracknell, footballer Matt le Tissier, javelin thrower Fatima Whitbread, long jumper Jade Johnson, long distance runner Liz McColgan, rugby player Shane Williams and badminton player Gail Emms, forming a stellar cast. Each episode will consist of four mental or physical challenges, culminating in the ‘night-duel’ where the pair with the lowest scores of the day will battle it out in challenges testing focus and reaction skills. Each episode will see one of the sporting stars leave the show. For Christian’s sake, let’s hope the challenges take place on land as he quoted ”The opportunity to do this came up and it seemed different and fun. At the same time, I don’t know what I’m getting myself into because I have a fear of deep water!”.

All the best to Christian as he attempts to top the charts of Britain’s galactic sportsmen and women.
