Chris Tomlinson set a new British long-jump record in claiming second place behind Olympic champion Irving Saladino at the Diamond League meeting in Paris last night.

The Middlesbrough-born athlete leaped 8.35metres in his third-round jump, beating the previous best of 8.30m set by Greg Rutherford at the World Championships in Berlin in 2009.

His jump gave Tomlinson the lead before Saladino jumped 8.40m to win.
