Feedback from 2005 Scheme
“We as Pinnington Road Residents Association will
definitely support any future initiatives regarding the
recent Street Sprint Event. I personally attended this event
with 12 of our local children all of which took part. This
efficiently run event was a talking point for a week before
for our local kids, and taking place became a matter of
pride for them as they had never heard of such an event
happening locally before. We had a great time as a group
supporting each other in the various races and I'm sure
the event would be just as successful if it was to take
place again. Our local kids loved it!!

“I am writing following attending last nights Street
Sprint Final held in Albert Square. The organisation, atmosphere
and delivery of this event was of the highest standard and
this was recognised by everyone I spoke to. The product
i.e. grass routes to performance, is absolutely what Manchester
is about so the event not only gave real opportunities to
Young Manchester people but also profiled Manchester nationwide
for its innovative unique and modern approach to developing
accessible sport. In addition Reebok's support and year
long sponsorship of 8 Manchester youngsters gave a real
feel that a 'champion' could emerge! I am fully aware that
this was a team effort as evidenced by numerous Sports Development
Staff working on the event and have thanked Jimmy Quigley
separately, however could you pass my comments on to all
staff and volunteers who were involved in making this event
successful. I know that Margaret Nuttall's team and in particular
Mike Parrot were working very closely with Leisure on the
organisation and delivery of this event with you and so
I have copied this note to Margaret as well. I have also
copied Councillors Mark Hackett and Roy Walters as they
also wished that I pass on their thanks”.
Eamonn O'Rourke - Deputy Head of Leisure, Manchester
City Council
"Reebok are delighted to be involved in Street Athletics,
an exciting new project which combines sport, music and
the youth of Manchester. Taking a running track into local
areas of Manchester created huge excitement and was a great
way to identify raw talent of the future. We hope one of
these kids will go forward and represent Great Britain in
2012!"
