Trevor Woodman, England’s Number One Loose-Head Prop
was born in Liskeard, Cornwall. He left Cornwall when he
was 18 to play full-time Rugby at Bath. In 1996 he transferred
from Bath to Gloucester, where over eight seasons he made
123 appearances in all competitions and scored 12 tries.
In 1999 Trevor broke in to the England side as a replacement
against the USA in a warm-up match and his subsequent caps
came from the bench until he faced the All Blacks at Twickenham
in 2002. This was the first match he started for England
and he made a great impression, being described by the RFU
as extremely tough and uncompromising’. Unfortunately
a neck injury forced him to withdraw from the remaining
two Autumn Internationals and he was out for three months.
Gloucester were unstoppable in the 2002/3 season, winning
17 games out of 22, finishing top of the Premiership with
82 points ahead of London Wasps in second place with 67
points. Fans and players were bitterly disappointed when
Wasps won in the Zurich Premiership final and Gloucester
were robbed of the title.
After a disappointing finish in the 2003 league, Trevor
travelled to Australia for The Rugby World Cup, for what
turned out to be the Sporting event of the year. Trevor
played in all games except one throughout the tournament,
the climax of the trip being his presence in the starting
line for England in the final in Sydney, which was by far
the closest and most exciting game of the Championship.
The tournament added 9 Caps and a World Cup Winners medal
to his career, along with plenty of awards and media attention
for all the England Team. Gloucester finished in fourth
place in 2004, securing a place in next years Heineken European
Cup. After nine years at Gloucester, Trevor announced his
move from the club in May 2004 to Sale Sharks for the 2004/05
season. He will begin pre-season training in July after
returning from England’s tour to the Southern Hemisphere.
In the little time he has off from Rugby, he enjoys walking
his dog and playing Golf and Snooker. He drives a Chrysler
Grand Cherokee Jeep supplied by the Chrysler Dealership
in Stockport. Trevor is an ambassador for International
Animal Rescue, working to help promote the rescue and rehabilitation
of suffering bears in India.
