Luke Lennon-Ford

Luke Lennon-Ford is one of Britain’s most exciting talents on the track. At the age of 21 he has already claimed Bronze at the World Indoors and Silver at the European Indoor Championships.

Luke showed promise in 2009 when at the age of 19 he won silver at the under 23 National Championships in the 400m.

Going into 2010, Luke was full of confidence after such a successful season the previous year. He wanted to build on the success of 2009 so decided to relocate to London to train with Olympic Champion Linford Christie who has coached the likes of Darren Campbell and Katharine Merry to Olympic success. He has made huge progression under Linford’s guidance and his first individual wins in the 400m came when he claimed Gold at the National U23 Championships and the British University Championships. The highlight of the year for Luke was claiming his first major medal at the World Indoor Championships. He was part of the 4x400m relay team that won the Bronze.

2011 is proving to be another great year for Luke. After retaining his title over 200m at the British University Indoor Championships, Luke was selected to be part of the 4x400m team to go to Paris for the European Indoors. Still only aged 21, Luke managed to help the team claim Silver.

Luke enjoyed a successful warm weather training trip to Arizona with ‘Team Linford’. Since coming back, he has recorded PB’s of 45.56s in the 400m and 20.91s in the 200m. Going in to the European U23 Championships full of confidence he came out a double medal winner, claiming Bronze in the 400m and Gold in the 4x400m.

His eyes are firmly set on success at the World Championships later this summer and of course the London 2012 Olympic Games where Linford believes he really is one to watch.

Luke is currently at Middlesex University Studying Sport and Exercise Science. He is a keen Manchester United fan and used to play Ice Hockey before devoting his time to training for Athletics.
