Christian Malcolm has been one of Britain’s top male sprinters over the last decade, which was clear from an early age. In 1998 aged just 19 Christian won the double over 100m and 200m at the World Junior Championships. He also claimed Silver in the same year at the Commonwealth Games, in a time of 20.29.
2000 was another good year for Christian taking Gold in the European Indoor Championships, also winning the 200m at the European Cup. He went to the Olympics with huge expectations for a 21 year old. Cruising through the rounds, he recorded a personal best in the second round with 20.19 and matching this time in the semi finals. He ran a great race and he clocked 20.23 to finish 5th at his first Olympic Games.
The following year Christian was unfortunate to just miss out on a medal at the World Championships in Edmonton. Christian has however claimed consecutive Bronze medals in the 2005 and 2007 World Championships in the 4x100m relay.
Going to the Beijing Olympics free from injury, Christian competed in the 200m progressing through the rounds. He lined up next to Bolt in the Final and knew it would not be an easy race. He ran a fantastic bend to finish in 5th, making him the highest placed British male sprinter at the Games.
2010 saw Christian return to form and this produced a Silver medal at the European Championships and Bronze at the Commonwealth Games. This cemented his status as a true medal contender in 2012 when the Olympic Games come to home soil.
Going into 2011 full of confidence, Christian managed to establish himself as Britain’s No.1 200m runner taking gold at the World Trials. He was also given the honour of captaining the Great Britain team out in Daegu for the World Championships. Making it through to the 200m semi-finals in Daegu, Christian placed 5th in what was a very strong field.
As one of Britain’s most exciting Athletics talents Christian has taken to the catwalk on a number of occasions to launch clothing collections. He has also featured on a number of TV shows including, A Question of Sport and The Biggest Loser as well as featuring in publications such as FHM and GQ. He also has a Radio show on BBC Wales.
Christian is sponsored by Mizuno. He lives in Newport, Wales and is coached by Dan Phaff.
Christian has always been an all round sports person and played Football to a high standard when he was younger, having trials with QPR and Nottingham Forest.
